This terminological database regarding menstruation is bilingual (English-Spanish, Spanish-English) and has three main objectives: (a) provide linguistic-terminological data; (b) represent conceptual data; and (c) include gender-sensitive data, whenever the term requires so.
In the main view of the entries, linguistic-terminological information of each terms can be found, such as its grammatical category, its definition, a usage context and its variants. Moreover, some terms include hyperlinks to the original sources of the definitions and contexts so that users are able to go further in their search.
Besides these informations, some terms include conceptual data (similarities, inclusion, sequencialities, causalities, instrumentals or meronimies). However, this field is still being developed and it will be gradually completed.
This resource aims to be “gender-sensitive”. This means that we want to visibilise and spread women’s health issues, in this case menstruation, to comply with the original intention of our project: "(...) nuestro proyecto iba tomando forma con la firme voluntad de incluir la perspectiva de género en nuestras investigaciones, pero nos preguntábamos cómo podrían contribuir los terminólogos, traductores y lingüistas al desarrollo de sociedades más igualitarias en las que el papel de la mujer en los campos temáticos esté representado de forma equitativa, así como sus problemas específicos". (Vargas-Sierra, 2023)
In the tab regarding gender-sensitive data (which is taken from de Ruiz Cantero, M. T. (coord). (2019). Perspectiva de género en medicina), users will be able to see especialised information related to gender, such as:
We have also included a field to include publications or references for further information.
